Manitoba Foster Family Network Inc. (MFFN)


The Manitoba Foster Family Network Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization that is focused on grassroots community development opportunities to enhance the lives of foster families.  The Network’s activities fall under the following categories:

  • Communication
  • Resources
  • Education
  • Support
MFFN programs are designed with a focus on the unique needs and strengths of foster families and the children they care for.

All licensed foster parents in the province of Manitoba are automatically members of the Manitoba Foster Family Network.

Youth Emergency Crisis Stabilization System (YECSS)

The Youth Emergency Crisis Stabilization System is a community-based crisis intervention service for youth (under age 18) and their families. Operating on a 24-hour, 7 day a week basis, they offer a range of supportive options.

Examples of issues they respond to include:
  • Parent-child conflict
  • Thoughts of suicide
  • Mental health concerns
  • Traumatic events
  • Problem behaviors
Intake Workers will assist you by:
  • Providing telephone counseling
  • Dispatching a mobile crisis team
  • Referring to other community resources
The Mobile Crisis Teams have access to resources that are designed to help youth and their families cope in times of crisis. These services include:
  • Crisis stabilization units for girls and boys (9-17 years of age)
  • Brief treatment team
  • Home-based crisis intervention
  • Youth emergency education system

Foster-Family Based Treatment Association (FFTA)

Knowles Centres Treatment Foster Care Program was developed based on the standards delineated by the Foster-Family Based Treatment Association (FFTA).  The FFTA is an agency-led organization of treatment foster care providers established in 1988 with an initial purpose of defining and refining treatment foster care practice. Membership is composed of agencies throughout North America. The FFTA is committed to enhancing the lives of children and families, through strengthening family-based organizations.
