Knowles Centre Inc. is inviting applications for a one-on-one SUPPORT WORKER

Position: Support Worker - full time indefinite term up to one year-– 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday
Hours: Must be available days, evenings from 8 AM to 8 PM
Start date:  May 2014

Summary: Support staff are responsible for assisting youth with the development of skills needed for independent living.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Ongoing assessment of youths skill development
  • Assisting with budgeting, nutrition, meal preparation, shopping, maintaining a safe and clean environment
  • Exploring recreational activities and various community resources with the youth
  • Educating youth on safety issues related to the community and daily living
  • Assisting with the management of medical, dental, optical appointments
  • Educating and assisting with all other aspects of independent living
  • Participating in biweekly/monthly programming
  • Providing accurate documentation in a timely manner
  • Attending supervision, team meetings and conferences as required

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience working with Level-4 youth
  • A good knowledge of community resources
  • The ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Minimum grade 12 diploma (CYC certificate or diploma preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
  • Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry, Adult Abuse Registry,  Prior Contact and Criminal Reference Checks

Youth Care Worker -Unit 2

Part-Time Position (0.5 EFT)  (Indefinite Term)

Knowles Centre is an accredited treatment facility serving children, adolescents, and families from Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario.


·         Supervise high needs/at-risk youth, both individually and in groups in a boys secure unit

·         Provide feedback to treatment teams

·         Work as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team


·         Minimum Gr.12, RRC or University education (preferred)

·         Education and experience with level four children an asset

·         Strong interest in working with high needs, at-risk youth

·         Excellent interpersonal skills

·         Successful applicant will be subject to Child Abuse Registry, Prior Contact and Criminal Reference checks

·         Experience working with Level 4 clients with behavioral and emotional difficulties

·         Experience working in an alternative setting (camp)

·         Experience working in a secure setting

·         Valid Manitoba Driver’s License

·         First Aid/CPR/NVCI

 Salary:  as per MGEU union contract

Work hours: Shift Work
