Knowles Centre Grounds

Knowles Centre is a non-profit treatment centre for young people with emotional and behavioral difficulties. It began as a home for boys in 1907, and today provides programs to both boys and girls ages birth to 21+ years of age and their families from Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Depending on the treatment services they require, clients are referred to one of five of Knowles Centre’s programs, which include:
  • Group Care Treatment Program
  • Treatment Foster Care Program
  • Day Treatment Program
  • Sexual Abuse Treatment Program
  • SAIL Program
In addition, we offer support services that complement our core programs:
  • Biimautaziiwin Aboriginal Cultural Program
  • Recreation Program
  • John G. Stewart Camp & Outdoor Education Program
  • John G. Stewart School (River East Transcona School Division)
  • Culinary Arts Program (offered in partnership with RETSD)
  • Psychiatric consultation

Located in a 10-acre park-like setting in northeast Winnipeg, Knowles Centre facilities include:
  • Two, secure 10-bed group homes
  • Manitoba Moose Recreation Room
  • Biimautaziiwin Aboriginal Cultural Room and Grounds
  • Sexual Abuse Treatment Program Room
  • Family Suite
  • Private therapist offices
  • Cafeteria and kitchen
  • Boardroom
  • On-site maintenance shop
  • The Charles Hawkins Administration Building
In addition, Knowles Centre operates:
  • Two, open 6-bed group homes in the surrounding community
  • A full-service camp located in the Whiteshell Provincial Park

The John G. Stewart School (part of the River East Transcona School Division) is located on the grounds of Knowles Centre. The school has the distinction of being the only publicly funded school on private property in Manitoba.

We are proud to be the only child and youth residential treatment centre in Manitoba accredited by the Council on Accreditation. This affirms that Knowles Centre has met a set of internationally established requirements that help ensure quality service and best-practice standards. Accreditation also provides assurance that Knowles Centre is performing services that the community needs, conducting its operations effectively, and managing its funds wisely.
